Popular baseball markets
How betting on baseball works
Every baseball league uses the same core markets. The moneyline is the main one, the run line is baseball's spread, totals bet on combined runs, and player props and same-game parlays sit on top; see moneyline, spread and totals and how betting odds work. Because scores are low and the starting pitcher decides so much, favourites are priced short: even great teams lose about four games in ten.
What changes between leagues is the number of games, the depth of the markets and how much sportsbooks let you bet. That is why we give MLB its own page.
Which baseball events matter most for betting
The table ranks events by how much betting interest they attract, from our reading of sportsbook menus, promotions and press coverage. We do not have official handle figures per event.
| Tier | Event | When | Why it matters for betting |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1: biggest | MLB regular season | 2027: scheduled 24 March to 26 September | Up to 15 games a day for six months, with props on every pitcher. |
| 1: biggest | MLB postseason | 2026: from 29 September; 2027 dates not yet published | Wild Card, Division and League Championship series, with heavy betting on series prices. |
| 1: biggest | World Series | 2026: 23 to 31 October (Rays vs Brewers) | The biggest baseball betting event of the year. |
| 2: major | MLB Opening Day | Opening Night 24 March 2027, Opening Day 25 March | A busy futures and props day; the Netflix game opens the season. |
| 2: major | MLB All-Star Game | Tue 13 July 2027, Wrigley Field | A single game, with novelty props. |
| 2: major | MLB Draft and trade deadline | Summer 2027 (dates not yet published) | A futures and props market for prospects and contenders. |
| 3: smaller | NPB (Japan) and KBO (Korea) | Spring to autumn | Niche markets with small limits, mostly at bookmakers with Asian coverage. |
| 3: smaller | College baseball and the College World Series | Spring to June | Few sportsbooks list it, and many states restrict college markets. |
| 3: smaller | Spring training | February and March | Rosters vary and many books limit or skip it. |
MLB dates come from MLB.com and ESPN, and were last checked on 21 October 2026. MLB's labour contract expires on 1 December 2026 and ESPN reports a lockout is expected, so 2027 dates could change.

Where to bet on baseball
These are the sportsbooks we rate highest for baseball. Scores come from published terms, regulator records and independent reporting, not our own real-money tests, and each one is only available in states where it is licensed.
- FanDuel: best overall US app, with deep props and a top same-game parlay builder.
- DraftKings: available in the most states, with one of the biggest prop menus.
- bet365: often sharper moneylines and strong live betting.
- BetMGM, Fanatics and Caesars: good if you want their rewards programmes.
Compare them all in our best betting sites ranking. Our MLB betting page ranks them for MLB and covers the best apps.
Baseball prediction markets
You can also trade baseball results on prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket, instead of betting against a sportsbook. MLB games and World Series futures are the deepest. Prices, fees, settlement rules and legality are in our guide to MLB prediction markets, and the general picture is in sports event contracts.
Baseball betting tips
These habits reduce mistakes. None guarantees a profit, and most bettors lose over time.
- Start with the pitchers, and check them again just before first pitch.
- Know the rain and pitcher rules of your sportsbook before you bet.
- Remember that underdogs win often, so short favourites carry real risk.
- Shop between sportsbooks. Keep two or three accounts and compare before every bet.
- Keep same-game parlays small. Each leg multiplies the risk; see what is a parlay.
- Be careful with 2027 futures while the labour dispute is unresolved.
- Set a weekly budget with bankroll management.
