The NBA is working with its sportsbook partners to remove selected betting markets as the league strengthens its response to gambling integrity concerns. The changes were reported before 19 October and were confirmed by NBC Sports on 16 October.
Which markets are affected
The target is wagers considered particularly vulnerable to manipulation, including:
- certain combinations of player "under" selections;
- markets involving players with limited expected playing time.
The measures follow scandals that exposed the risks around individual player statistics. A player's early exit or restricted involvement can swing a prop market, even when it has little effect on the final result.
What changes for bettors
In practice, expect a smaller selection of some player props and same-game parlay combinations at participating sportsbooks.
The bigger picture
The challenge for the league is keeping betting products attractive while reducing opportunities for manipulation. Removing markets addresses one part of the problem; monitoring and clear rules for participants remain essential.
