How Dota 2 betting works
Dota 2 matches are Bo1, Bo3 or Bo5. Beyond match and map winners, Dota has some of esports' richest in-game markets: first blood, first tower, Roshan, kill totals and duration — see Dota 2 objective markets.
The International 2026
Team Spirit beat Team Vision (formerly PARIVISION) 3–2 in the grand final in Shanghai on 23 August 2026, becoming the first organisation to lift the Aegis three times. Read The International 2026 recap for bettors.
Dota 2 betting markets explained
| Market | Example | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Match winner | Team Spirit 1.70 | Who wins the series |
| Map handicap | −1.5 maps | Clean sweep needed in a Bo3 |
| First blood | Team to get the first kill | Often happens in the first minutes |
| First tower / first Roshan | Team to get it | Mid-game objectives |
| Total kills | Over 45.5 | Varies hugely by teams and patch |
| Game duration | Over 38 minutes | Dota games often run 35–45 minutes |
| Outrights | The International winner | Long-term bets |
Format and the draft
Most Dota 2 series are Bo3, with Bo5 grand finals and some Bo1/Bo2 group formats (a Bo2 can end 1–1, so check how a draw is settled). Each game starts with a long captain's mode draft, and Dota's frequent patches can shift the meta quickly. Long games mean comebacks are common — a 10,000-gold lead is not a guaranteed win.
Dota 2 betting tips
- Check the patch date — the first week after a big patch is the least predictable.
- Use Dotabuff, STRATZ and Liquipedia for hero pools and head-to-heads — see reading esports stats.
- Be careful with live bets — big swings in teamfights move prices sharply.
- Stick to tier-1 events, where integrity monitoring is strongest.
