Build a Worlds 2026 Roster for $15: Captain's Five Picks

Five roles, five price tags, fifteen dollars. Every upgrade costs you somewhere else — so here's where I'm spending, and what 324 Reddit lineups say about everyone else.

Five golden player cards for Zeus, Tarzan, Caps, Smash and CoreJJ in an arena under the headline Five Players. $15.

Fifteen dollars. Five roles. Every upgrade forces a sacrifice somewhere else.

Over on r/PedroPeepos, u/DarkDjool posted the kind of challenge that's guaranteed to get League of Legends fans arguing: build your Worlds 2026 roster with $15.[1] Each role has five players priced from $5 down to $1, and you pick exactly one per role. As the author clarified in the comments, the grid isn't a ranking of the top five players in each position — it's a budget puzzle.

Here's the grid:

Buy every $3 player and you've spent your budget. Want a $5 star? Someone else has to come from the bargain bin. I'm taking the challenge — and then we'll see how my picks compare with everyone else's.

Captain's $15 roster

RolePlayerPrice
TopZeus$5
JungleTarzan$4
MidCaps$2
BotSmash$3
SupportCoreJJ$1
Total$15

The idea is simple: spend $9 on the top side of the map, then use the two best bargains on the board — Caps and CoreJJ — to keep the rest of the team competitive. Every dollar spent.

Why these five

Zeus ($5): the win condition

If I'm paying full price for a top laner, the team has to play through him. Zeus gives this roster a clear direction: send resources top when the matchup allows it and make opponents answer the problem. The flip side is an obligation — buying the most expensive top laner and then leaving him on an island would waste a third of the budget.

Tarzan ($4): where the extra dollar goes

Inspired at $3 is the obvious value pick, and plenty of commenters took him. For this team I'd rather spend one more dollar and build around a jungler who organises pressure, objectives and movement between the lanes. That single dollar is the biggest decision in the roster — more on that below.

Caps ($2): the pick that makes everything possible

At $2, Caps is the steal of the grid — the crowd agrees with me on this one, as you'll see. He keeps the mid lane ambitious while freeing money for top and jungle. In this lineup I'd ask him to roam with Tarzan and threaten both sides of the map, so the team doesn't depend on the bot lane carrying every game.

Smash ($3): the compromise I'm willing to make

Choosing Smash over Viper saves exactly the dollar needed to upgrade Inspired to Tarzan. That's the whole trade. It's not a claim that Smash is the better ADC — it's a judgement about where a limited budget does the most good. His job here is to stay a credible threat while the team invests its attention up top.

CoreJJ ($1): the dollar that holds the budget together

Passing on Keria is a real sacrifice. But CoreJJ is a former world champion (2017, with Samsung Galaxy) and a proven shotcaller, and taking him for $1 instead of Keria for $5 is what lets Zeus, Tarzan and Caps share a roster. I'd give him the job of babysitting Smash and syncing movements with the jungle.

What the thread picked: 324 lineups counted

Now the fun part. We went through the whole thread and counted every complete lineup within the $15 budget — one player per role, all from the grid. That gave us 324 lineups.

Each lineup counts once, whatever its upvotes, and replies that just agreed with someone else don't count as new lineups. If a commenter offered a main pick plus an "alternative", we counted the main one; if they posted twice, we counted the first. We left out lineups that went over budget, skipped a role, used players outside the grid (yes, people really wanted Chovy) or were pure jokes like "15 Dhoklas".

Almost everyone spent the full budget: 303 of the 324 lineups (93.5%) cost exactly $15.

The most picked player in each role

RoleMost pickedLineupsShareRunner-up
TopTheShy ($2)11134.3%Zeus ($5) — 104
JungleTarzan ($4)11936.7%Inspired ($3) — 109
MidCaps ($2)16550.9%Faker ($4) — 59
BotViper ($4)8325.6%Smash ($3) — 81
SupportCoreJJ ($1)13441.4%Keria ($5) — 106

A few things jump out:

  • Caps is the consensus. He's the only player in more than half of all lineups — almost three times as many as the next mid laner. "Caps for $2 is a steal" was close to a running chorus in the thread.
  • Support is the big fork in the road. CoreJJ (134) against Keria (106): pay $5 for the best support in the grid, or pay $1 and spend $4 elsewhere. Only 84 lineups (26%) picked neither of them.
  • Top lane is a price argument. TheShy edges Zeus, and I read that as a budget call, not a verdict on who's better: TheShy at $2 is a gamble that funds other roles. One commenter summed up the risk perfectly by hoping they'd get TheShy "and not TheSpy".
  • Bot lane has no favourite. Viper and Smash are separated by two lineups, and Caliste ($1) is close behind with 67. It's the most evenly split role on the board.
  • The cheapest stars were the most popular. Ranking players across all roles, the top three are Caps (165), CoreJJ (134) and Tarzan (119).

These numbers show what people chose under a budget. They don't measure who is the better player, and they certainly aren't win probabilities.

The 324 lineups contained 135 different teams — and 72 of them were picked by only one person. These were the most common:

Lineup (Top – Jungle – Mid – Bot – Support)Times pickedShare
Zeus – Inspired – Caps – Viper – CoreJJ164.9%
Zeus – Tarzan – Caps – Smash – CoreJJ (Captain's)154.6%
Zeus – Josedeodo – Caps – Caliste – Keria103.1%
Zeus – Josedeodo – Caps – Peyz – CoreJJ103.1%
Bin – Inspired – Caps – Caliste – Keria92.8%
TheShy – Tarzan – Faker – Viper – CoreJJ92.8%

My roster finished second — one vote behind its closest relative. Look at the top two: both keep Zeus, Caps and CoreJJ, and both cost $15. The only difference is where one dollar goes. The most popular lineup takes Inspired and Viper; mine takes Tarzan and Smash. The thread, like me, ended up arguing about a single dollar.

I'm keeping it in the jungle. But with the leading lineup on under 5% of the vote, nobody can claim a consensus — there are plenty of good ways to spend fifteen dollars.

Reddit also kept money for dinner

The thread was never going to stay serious. One commenter (going by GenG_Caedrel) bought the cheapest possible lineup and left $10 for Sally to order Uber Eats. Others fielded "Labrov James" in four roles, bought "five ShowMakers", or spent the whole budget on Dhokla clones. Another saved the $15 for a kebab and decided to play the games themselves.

Those jokes are also why upvotes aren't votes: some of the most upvoted comments in the thread are memes, not team plans. That's why our count weighs every lineup equally.

Your turn: would you keep Tarzan and Smash, or move that dollar back into bot lane for Viper?
