How to use the lucky number generator
- Choose how many numbers you want, from 1 to 20.
- Set the range, from the lowest to the highest number.
- Tick No repeats if each number may appear only once, like balls from a lottery drum.
- Press Draw numbers. Draw again for a new set, or use Copy result to save it.
The numbers appear in order when there are no repeats. With repeats they stay in the order they were drawn.
What "lucky" really means here
The generator does not know which numbers are lucky. It picks every number in your range with the same chance, using your browser's secure random number generator. That is the fairest way to choose, and it is the same method a lottery machine tries to copy.
Some presets that people use:
| Game style | Count | From | To | No repeats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic lottery | 6 | 1 | 49 | Yes |
| Pick-3 style | 3 | 0 | 9 | No |
| Raffle ticket | 1 | 1 | 1000 | n/a |
| Dice-like roll | 1 | 1 | 6 | n/a |
A short word on odds
The chance of any single combination of 6 numbers from 49 is 1 in 13,983,816. A set like 3, 14, 22, 31, 38, 47 is exactly as likely as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Past draws do not change the odds either: a number that has not come up for months is not "due", which is the gambler's fallacy.
Tips for fun
- Make it a ritual. Choose a favourite number and let the generator fill the rest.
- Avoid only birthdays. Numbers up to 31 are popular, so a win would be shared more often.
- Set a budget first. Games of chance cost money on average, whatever numbers you pick.
