July 2026 brought two more sweepstakes casino bans.[1][2]

Indiana: HB 1052

Indiana's House Bill 1052 (Public Law 153) took effect on 1 July 2026. The Indiana Gaming Commission can impose civil penalties of up to $100,000 per violation against operators. Indiana has legal sports betting but no online casino, so lawmakers saw sweepstakes casinos as unlicensed competition.

Maine: LD 2007

Maine's LD 2007, signed on 6 April 2026, took effect on 29 July 2026 as Chapter 645 of the 2026 laws. It wasn't an emergency measure, so it took effect on the general effective date for the session — 90 days after the Legislature adjourned on 29 April — which the official Laws of the State of Maine 2026 gives as 29 July 2026. (Some trackers still say 14 July; that's wrong.)[3] Maine's tribes hold the rights to online sports betting and, under a separate 2026 law, to online casino gaming (not yet live), and the ban protects those regulated markets.

What it means

Operators have exited both states. Players should follow operators' instructions for remaining balances. See where it's legal and what a ban means for players.
